Why it is More Important Than Ever to Protect your New or “New to You” Car!

The fact of the matter is that buying a car in today’s environment is more expensive than ever. And due to that fact; it’s more important than ever to protect that investment. We take even longer to pay for these new rides and therefore need them to last far longer. Yes, it is absolutely important to take care of your vehicle mechanical-wise. But what most people don’t realize is that it’s imperative to take care of the exterior finish as well. And the reality is, it’s not that hard.
But is price really the only reason that it’s more important than ever to protect your new ride? The short answer is no. Here are a few other reasons:
- The next time you have a post-it note in your hand, take a look at how thin it is. The clear coat on your car is even thinner!!
- Repainting panels are more expensive than ever today due to newer paint systems, material cost, and the wide variety of substrates.
- Automotive manufacturers use more and more fragile and hard to care for finishes such as piano black plastic, anodized pieces, painted wheels, etc. There are also brands where you can get satin finishes or your own custom color. So what happens when you get a chip or scratch????
The fact of the matter is that if you wait too long to try and protect or refresh your finish, we as professional detailers will not be able to do as much. When I have clients who want to protect their new rides, my first recommendation is paint protection film aka clear bra to high wearing areas. After that, it is important to keep your finish protected with at least a paint sealant. Ceramic coatings are also an amazing option to protect your new to you ride because it not only protects your new ride, but makes it far easier to maintain along with creating amazing gloss.
